Agencies and Commissions

Question 12 • FL-2106020-M/J Civics Advanced Q2 Teacher-Led Remediation

The federal government has many agencies and commissions in place just to watch their own federal workforce. Why are these agencies important? Describe the functions of the Office of Personnel Management, the Merit Systems Protection Board, and the Office of Government Ethics.

Answer

Answer:

The Office of Personnel Management hires federal employees and keeps employee records. Many of its duties are secretarial. The Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB) oversees the correct treatment of employees and recognition of achievement. Any unfair treatment of a federal employee is reported to the MSPB. Since the government gives contracts to many businesses, the Office of Government Ethics is necessary to make sure all business deals and contacts are awarded using fair and legal business tactics.
