Throughout the reflection, make sure that you have the copy of the student guide, PDF or Word and your data tables. Choose the terms that complete the statements. In this lab, you examined factors that influence the absorption of energy from . You investigated how the of material and the angle of affect the absorption of heat. Finally, you looked at the result of temperature differences on Earth’s surface.
Answer the questions using the drop-down menus. Which is the independent variable in this experiment? Which is the dependent variable in this experiment? Which is a controlled variable in this experiment?
Which order shows the materials having the highest to lowest temperature after 15 minutes of being under the lamps?
Answer the questions using the drop-down menus. Which is the independent variable in this experiment? Which is the dependent variable in this experiment? Which is a controlled variable in this experiment?
Which angle allows the soil to receive the most direct light from the lamp?
Which statements describe the results of the effect of angle of insolation on absorption experiment? Check all that apply. At 3 minutes, the soil temperature at a 0° angle of insolation is higher than at 90°.At 6 minutes, the soil temperature at a 45° angle of insolation is higher than at 0°.At 9 minutes, the soil temperature at a 90° angle of insolation is lower than at 45°.At 12 minutes, the soil temperature at a 45° angle of insolation is lower than at 0°.At 15 minutes, the soil temperature at a 90° angle of insolation is higher than at 45°.
What conclusion can be made based on the temperature of soil when the light hits the soil at 0°, 45°, and 90° angles in Section 2 of the experiment? Did your results support your hypothesis? Why or why not?
I can conclude that the more direct light/rays a material receives, the more heat it absorbs. The results support my hypothesis because the results show that the temperature of the soil is highest at the 90º angle of insolation. At this angle, the soil sample received the most direct rays and absorbed the most heat.
Complete the paragraph by choosing the answers from the drop-down menus. The air over Earth’s surfaces absorbs heat from the materials of Earth. In Section 3 of the experiment, the air over the sand the air over the water because sand water. This difference in temperatures makes the air over the sand the air over the water so it rises. The air above the water takes the place of the air above the sand. This movement of air creates a sea breeze.
