Molecular homologies show similarities in DNA and proteins; for example, humans and chimpanzees have very similar DNA sequences, indicating a common ancestor. The fossil record shows that organisms have changed over time and includes transitional forms; for example, Tiktaalik has features of both fish and early four-legged animals, showing the transition from water to land.
