The Haitian Revolution was more successful than the Mexican Revolution because it achieved a total social transformation in addition to political independence. While the Mexican Revolution (1810–1821) secured independence from Spain, it initially left many colonial social structures and hierarchies in place. In contrast, the Haitian Revolution was the only successful slave revolt in history, resulting in the complete abolition of slavery and the establishment of a republic governed by formerly enslaved people.
