You are a farmer living in Georgia in the path of Sherman’s army in 1864.Write one paragraph describing what happened when his army passed through. Use details from the readings and the illustration.

Answer:

The Union soldiers arrived at my farm today, and it was devastating to witness. General Sherman’s men took all of my livestock and gathered every bit of produce from my fields to feed their massive army. What they couldn't carry, they destroyed; they set fire to my barn and the storehouse, leaving nothing but smoke and ash behind. They even ripped up the local railroad tracks, heating the rails and twisting them around trees. I am left with no way to harvest crops or provide for my family, as they have stripped the land bare in their march toward the sea.
