Describe the Earth’s two forest biomes (coniferous and deciduous). How are these two biomes different from one another? Explain your answer in at least three sentences.
Coniferous forests are dominated by trees that produce cones and usually have needle-shaped leaves that remain on the trees year-round. Deciduous forests are dominated by broad-leaved trees that lose their leaves during part of the year, often in autumn. Coniferous forests are commonly found in colder regions, while deciduous forests often occur in regions with warmer summers and distinct seasons.
What is a biome? In a short paragraph of at least three or four sentences, explain how areas can be grouped together into biomes.
A biome is a large region characterized by a particular climate and by the plants and animals adapted to it. Areas can be grouped into the same biome when they have similar environmental conditions, especially temperature and precipitation. Those conditions support similar kinds of vegetation and wildlife, even when the areas are far apart. Biomes help describe broad patterns of life across Earth.

The biome shown is a tropical rainforest. Tropical rainforests are warm and humid year-round and receive heavy rainfall. They have dense, layered evergreen vegetation and support an exceptionally wide variety of plants and animals, including parrots.
Analyze the photos below and answer the question that follows.Photos by Bogomolov.PL, Robert Gibboni III, and Brian Dell The three lizards in the photos above live thousands of miles away from each other. In fact, they are all from different continents! However, they all live in the same biome. In a short paragraph of at least three sentences, explain why this is the case.

Biomes are classified by shared climate and characteristic plant and animal life, not by continent. These lizards live in desert environments found on different continents, where rainfall is low and vegetation is sparse. They have adaptations that help them survive in similar dry conditions, even though they live thousands of miles apart.

Grasslands are wide, mostly open areas where grasses are the dominant plants and trees are relatively scarce. They generally receive enough rainfall to support grasses but not enough for dense forests, and they may experience seasonal droughts and fires. Grasslands also support large grazing animals such as buffalo, along with predators such as coyotes.
