Mood Disorders

Question 6 • SHS Alt Psychology S2 - 2021

Summarize how having poor interpersonal skills, or social skills, affects depression.

Answer

Answer:

Responses may vary but should include some or all of the following information: There is a relationship between depression and people who have poor social skills. Individuals with poor social skills are unable to form new, healthy relationships because they are usually irritable or pessimistic. These personality traits seem to keep other people away from them, causing them to be more isolated and depressed. Often the only relationships that these individuals have are the ones that keep them feeling negative or do not offer support. This, in turn, causes them to have negative thoughts about themselves and those around them, which supports their depression.
