Question 8 • TX-Psychology

Describe the process of myelination and how it impacts information processing in childhood.

Answer

Answer:

Responses may vary but should include all or some of the following information: Myelination occurs when children develop a myelin sheath, or a sheath of fatty tissue made of glial cells, around the axon of a neuron. Information processing, or the ability to process information, speeds up as a result of this process. In other words, children are able to think more quickly, which allows them to process information in complex ways as myelination occurs.
