Choose a plant tissue. Write an explanation of how that tissue’s structure relates to its function. Be specific and detailed.
Xylem tissue transports water and dissolved minerals from the roots to the rest of the plant. Its vessel elements are hollow and joined end to end, forming tubes with few obstructions to water flow. Their walls are thickened with lignin, which prevents the tubes from collapsing and also helps support the plant. This structure allows xylem to move water upward efficiently while strengthening the plant.
