Read the excerpt from Little Women.Everybody sniffed when they came to that part. Jo wasn’t ashamed of the great tear that dropped off the end of her nose, and Amy never minded the rumpling of her curls as she hid her face on her mother’s shoulder and sobbed out, "I am a selfish girl! But I’ll truly try to be better, so he mayn’t be disappointed in me by-and-by.”

Jo does not feel embarrassed that large tears run down her face and off her nose, and Amy is unconcerned with her hair getting messed up while she hides her face in her mother’s shoulder. Amy cries loudly and says that she is selfish but will try to improve so that her father is not upset by her behavior.

Jo is not embarrassed that tears run down her face, and Amy does not care when her hair gets mussed as she presses her face into her mother’s shoulder.
