Skills Lesson: Making Comparisons Answers

Since monsoons are storms that usually occur during a specific time of year in certain regions, you could not compare them to thunderstorms.

Part of making comparisons involves contrasting unlike characteristics.

After visiting a nature center, students were asked to contrast their observations based on location. Which of these students followed those directions?a.Amy: wildlife in or near water = turtles, crayfish, goldfish non-water wildlife = fox, deer, bobcatb.Craig: wildlife with hair or fur = fox, deer, bobcat wildlife without hair or fur = turtle, crayfish, goldfishc.Megan: mammals = fox, deer, bobcat other = turtle, crayfish, goldfishd.Luke: observed = fox, deer, bobcat, turtle, crayfish, goldfish not observed = water snake, squirrel

Mr. Potter’s physical science classes conducted an experiment to determine the density of aluminum. Here are the density values each class period came up with: 1st hour = 3.1 g/ml, 2nd hour = 3.05 g/ml, 3rd hour = 1.9 g/ml, 4th hour = 2.35 g/ml, 5th hour = 4.2 g/ml, and 6th hour = 4.0 g/ml. If Aluminum’s true density is 2.7 g/ml, how would you group the class values based on accuracy?a.Group: 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 6th hours, with one recorded decimal place in their valuesGroup: 2nd and 4th hours, with two recorded decimal places in their valuesb.Group: 3rd and 4th hours, with values under the true densityGroup: 1st, 2nd, 5th, and 6th hours, with values over the true densityc.Group: 3rd hour, with a 1 valueGroup: 4th hour, with a 2 valueGroup: 1st and 2nd hours, with 3 valuesGroup: 5th and 6th hours, with 4 valuesd.Group all classes as accurate
