Answer the following question in 3-4 complete sentences. Name and describe the type of structure shown in this sketch. What development(s) made this structure, and others similar, possible?

The sketch shows a skyscraper, specifically the Chrysler Building, which is an example of a steel-frame structure. This type of building is tall, narrow, and supported by an internal skeleton of steel rather than thick masonry walls. Developments in steel-frame construction and the invention of the elevator made this building, and others like it, possible. New engineering techniques also allowed architects to build higher and more safely.

Answer the first question of the prompt in list form. Answer the opinion question(s) in 3-4 complete sentences. A) B) Examine the two photograph pieces of architecture above. What building technique or material was used to create each? In your opinion, did the architect use the best technique? Why/why not? If you would have chosen another technique, what would you have chosen?

A) The Golden Gate Bridge was created using steel construction and the suspension-bridge technique, with cables carrying the weight of the roadway. B) In my opinion, the architect did use the best technique for this structure. A suspension bridge is ideal for spanning a wide body of water because it can cover a very long distance without many supports in the middle. It is also strong and visually striking, which makes it both practical and beautiful. If I had chosen another technique, I might have considered a cantilever bridge, but I do not think it would have been as effective or elegant in this case.
