Team Sports Answers

In team sports, the offense's goal is to score points against the opposing team. Offense players are usually placed near the goal or scoring target, and they work to maintain possession of the game's scoring object (ball, puck, etc). The defense's goal is to prevent the opposing team from scoring. Defense players are positioned near their own goal and strive to win possession of the sport's scoring object.

Student responses will vary but should include how their favorite sport improves cardiovascular fitness, muscle strength, muscular endurance, body composition, and flexibility.

When playing together on a team, all members of a team are working together toward a common goal. There will be many successes and failures while trying to reach that common goal. These shared experiences make the feelings of friendship long-lasting.

Team sports can give an individual a sense of purpose. During game play, participants often experience a sense of euphoria, or happiness, that comes from this sense of purpose, from doing something well, and from doing something that is really enjoyable. Spiritual health can also be elevated by working in harmony with teammates and by knowing how to win or lose with grace.

Skill-related fitness goals are concerned with the development of a particular skill, such as reaction time and coordination. Health-related fitness goals focus more on general health conditions, such as cardiovascular fitness and muscular strength.

Game officials are the objective third party who oversee the competition between teams. They enforce the rules of the game. They start the competition and they end it as well. They approve the scores. The have ultimate authority over the game, and their rulings must therefore be obeyed.
