Question 8 • LHS Oklahoma History
Answer:
Three major factors led to the Dust Bowl: farmers plowed up native grasslands and replaced them with wheat and other crops; a long period of severe drought dried out the soil; and strong winds blew away the loose topsoil because there were no deep roots left to hold it in place. Overfarming and poor soil conservation practices also made the problem worse.
