Which ancient principles can be found in American government today? In a paragraph, provide at least three examples of government structures and principles that are based on ancient ideas.

Answer:

American government reflects several ancient ideas. Athenian direct democracy is echoed when citizens vote directly on issues, while Roman representative government is reflected in elected officials who act on behalf of the people. The Roman idea of balancing powers also influenced the separation of powers among the branches of government. Ancient Greeks and Romans discussed liberty and civic equality, ideals that are important in American government today, although ancient societies extended them to only some people.
