Using your notes, write a two-paragraph journal entry from the perspective of someone your age who is living in West Berlin during the Berlin airlift.

Answer:

Dear Journal, Today, West Berlin still feels cut off from the world because the Soviets have blocked the roads and railways. Food, coal, and other supplies are difficult to find, and my family worries about how long this crisis will last. Even though I am scared, people in our neighborhood are trying to stay hopeful and help one another. We listen to the adults discuss the blockade and wonder what will happen next. This afternoon, I heard the roar of airplanes overhead. The American and British pilots are flying supplies into the city, and we call it the Berlin Airlift. Everyone looks up when the planes pass, because they remind us that we have not been abandoned. I hope the airlift continues until the blockade ends and West Berlin can be free again.
