The government of Mexico is very similar to the government of the United States. Both countries operate under a federal system where power is shared between national and state governments. Additionally, both are representative democracies where citizens elect officials to represent them. Finally, both the United States and Mexico have a presidential system, where the head of government is also the head of state and is elected independently of the legislature.
