Personal space boundaries are the boundaries we keep when interacting publicly with others, such as on a bus, in an elevator, or in school hallways. Private property boundaries are the boundaries we keep that exclude others from entering a certain area. This boundary is about exclusion and separating “public” places form “private” places. We put fences around our houses to keep people out of our yards, and we put signs and locks on buildings to keep out people who are not welcome or authorized. Political boundaries do not usually have physical boundary lines; they are intangible boundaries and mapped boundaries. These are the lines that divide one state from another, one town from another, and one country from another. Zip codes, addresses, and area codes help define these lines in everyday use. The rules are different, even if only slightly, within each of these political boundaries.
