Describe some of the negative consequences that can result from being over stressed.

Answer:

To cope with stress, some people turn to addictive substances and build up an unhealthy reliance upon them. Addiction is a medical term used to describe a physical or mental need for a substance or activity. Addiction to cigarettes, alcohol, and drugs can lead to serious medical conditions, up to and including death. Less serious side effects can still cause you to be unable to come to work, distort your personality and emotions and lead to poor productivity. Too much unmanaged stress can also lead to depression, a serious medical condition. Depression causes you to have a distorted view of your value and place in the world. You feel sad and alone, even in the company of people who care about you. It can effect your relationships and cause you to withdraw from contact with others. If you experience the symptoms of depression, you should seek immediate medical attention.
