EdgeX vs Edgenuity: What's Different? (2026)
EDGEX AUTOMATION
- Auto Complete Exams
- Auto Complete Assignments
- Skip Lessons Instantly
EdgeX is Edgenuity's newer student experience. Same company, same kinds of courses, but it loads at student.ex.edgenuity.com instead of the classic learn.edgenuity.com, uses a new player, and serves many questions through Learnosity, the question engine behind Edgenuity's Nova player. If your school moved you to EdgeX, that's why the layout looks different and why old tools built for classic Edgenuity stopped working.
So which one is better, and what changes for you? Below is what's actually different, what students notice day to day, and a feature-by-feature table of what Revolt does on each.
What is EdgeX?
EdgeX is Edgenuity (owned by Imagine Learning) rebuilt with a modern interface. You still get video lessons, instructions, quizzes, tests, assignments and projects. The structure of a course will feel familiar; the screens around it won't. Schools are moving to it gradually, so plenty of students are on classic Edgenuity in one class and EdgeX in another.
What changed from classic Edgenuity
- •New address: EdgeX courses live at student.ex.edgenuity.com. Classic courses stay at learn.edgenuity.com.
- •New player: lessons and activities run in a redesigned player, so the buttons and layout are different.
- •Nova and Learnosity questions: quizzes, tests and lesson questions use Learnosity-style types like matching, cloze (fill-in), ordering and classification, alongside standard multiple choice.
- •Short-writing prompts: EdgeX has its own short written-response activities.
- •Performance tasks: larger project-style assignments where you produce and upload work.
How to tell which one you're on
Check the address bar. learn.edgenuity.com means classic Edgenuity; student.ex.edgenuity.com means EdgeX. Your district login (often Clever or ClassLink) sends you to whichever platform each course uses, so it's normal to have one class on each. Don't judge by the question style alone: Edgenuity's Nova player, which uses Learnosity questions, also shows up inside some classic courses. Knowing which platform you're on matters because it decides which Revolt features you can use.
What students actually notice
Day to day, the biggest differences are practical. Familiar shortcuts are gone, some question types take more clicks, and tools that worked on classic Edgenuity often don't recognize EdgeX pages at all. On the plus side, the interface is cleaner. The work itself, videos then practice then assessment, is the same loop. The EdgeX hacks guide covers which old tricks died with the switch.
Revolt supports classic Edgenuity and EdgeX with one key, so switching platforms doesn't mean switching tools.

Revolt runs on both, but the feature sets aren't identical. Classic Edgenuity has a longer list of specialist tools; EdgeX has its own extras like video speed presets and performance-task support.

Classic-only features
Instant Exam mode, Accuracy Range, Auto Essay, Auto Journal, Auto eNotes, Auto Vocabulary, Auto Language (PowerSpeak), Skip Intro, Question Unlock, Progress Bar and the Proctorio Bookmarklet are built for classic Edgenuity. If your class is on EdgeX, plan around Default mode with Humanized Answers instead.
Where EdgeX gets extra help
Auto Instructions on EdgeX can run videos at 5x (the default), 10x or 20x. EdgeX short-writing prompts and performance-task projects are handled, with AI covering quiz lookups that aren't in the database, short-writing and projects. Cloud Completions work on both platforms, so Revolt can finish an EdgeX class on its servers while your computer is off.
EdgeX vs Edgenuity: which is easier?
You usually don't get to choose. Your school picks the platform per course. In practice, classic Edgenuity has more automation available, while EdgeX moves faster through video-heavy lessons thanks to the speed presets. Either way, the same rules apply: don't race through a unit in an hour, keep scores realistic, and set Work Hours so automation runs when you'd normally be working. Need a single answer instead of a bot? The free answers search covers both platforms, and EdgeX answers explains how it handles EdgeX questions.
