Read the scenario.During the 1960 presidential election, Republican candidate Richard Nixon and Democratic candidate John F. Kennedy held the first presidential debates on US television. Since television was a relatively new form of media, the debates were also broadcast on radio. Nixon and Kennedy came across very differently on television. Nixon, who was older than Kennedy and had recently been ill, looked pale, tired, and in need of a shave. Kennedy, on the other hand, looked tanned, rested, and healthy. Kennedy looked into the camera, as if he were talking directly to the public. Nixon directed his gaze to the reporters in the room, which made it look like he was trying to avoid eye contact with the public. Polls held after the first debate showed that most TV viewers believed that Kennedy had won the debate. Radio listeners, on the other hand, believed either that the debate had been a draw or that Nixon had won. Kennedy went on to win the election in a close race.
Read the scenario. The nightly news played a big role in shaping public opinion on the Vietnam War. In the early years of the war, TV coverage centered on battle maps and statistics. The human cost of the war was seldom shown. In the late 1960s, television coverage changed as reporters began to distrust government statistics. Also, images from the Tet Offensive cast doubt on the government’s claim that the United States was winning the war. In 1968, Walter Cronkite, the anchor of CBS Evening News, returned from a tour of Vietnam. He declared his belief that the war would end in negotiation, not victory. Public support for the war began to drop.
Read the excerpt from an article in the Christian Science Monitor.Citizen footage has played a role in previous protest movements. . . .But the Black Lives Matter movement has been different. Bystander video sparked it, with cellphone-bearing citizens capturing the killings of Eric Garner, Alton Sterling, George Floyd, and others. While those high-profile clips showed the extremes of police brutality, the ubiquity [popularity] of smart phones during nationwide protests in recent weeks has provided a window into protesters’ interactions with officers unimaginable to past generations of Americans. . . .. . . What is resonating [creating a response] most now are videos that offer evidence of police aggression that are helping to disprove police claims and show some Americans a side of law enforcement that Black communities have been complaining about for decades.–"Black Lives Matter Movement: A Case for Camera Phones?”Jake Seiner, June 17, 2020

Which scenario is an example of how social media can influence elections?
Read the scenario. In 2016, Michael Luo, an editor at the New York Times, used the hashtag #thisis2016 to reach accounts by Asian Americans about the racism they faced. The Times then used the accounts to create a video. South and Southeast Asian Americans were not part of the video. So, they used their own hashtag, #BrownAsiansExist, to express their frustration at not being included. The video and the two hashtags helped create a conversation about diversity in Asian American communities.
Some life forms move so slowly that their movement cannot be detected by normal observation. The best way to determine any movement is by placing a mark at some point, and observing any change in position from it. Why is this true?
