Brightspace quizzes look simple, but a lot of students lose points to the settings around them: an attempt they didn't mean to start, a timer they didn't notice, or answers that didn't save. Your teacher controls most of these settings, so they vary from quiz to quiz. Here's how they work.

How a Brightspace quiz works

  • •The quiz page shows the rules before you start: how many attempts you get, whether there's a time limit, and when it's due.
  • •Clicking Start Quiz begins an attempt. That attempt counts even if you leave.
  • •Answers save as you go. Each question shows when its answer has saved.
  • •Submit Quiz asks you to confirm, then shows a receipt that your work was saved and submitted.
  • •Whether you see your score and the correct answers right away is up to your teacher.

Attempts and retakes

Your teacher decides how many attempts you get. Some quizzes allow one, and practice tests often allow unlimited attempts. If you have attempts left, the quiz page offers a new attempt. If you don't, only your teacher can give you another. Your grade may come from your highest attempt, your latest or an average, depending on how the quiz is set up. The receipt tells you which.

Tips that save points

  1. 1Read the attempt and time-limit rules before you click Start Quiz.
  2. 2Wait for each answer to show as saved before moving on, especially on slow internet.
  3. 3Don't open the same quiz in two tabs. It can overwrite answers.
  4. 4On written responses, answer the actual question in complete sentences. Teachers grade these by hand.
  5. 5Check the receipt after you submit. If it doesn't say submitted, it isn't.

How Revolt handles Brightspace quizzes on TDA

On TDA's Brightspace, Revolt's Auto Exam answers multiple-choice, select-all-that-apply and written-response questions. It waits for Brightspace to confirm every answer saved, then submits. The video below ends on a real OST practice test receipt: 10 out of 10.

Auto Exam on a TDA practice test, ending on the 10 / 10 receipt. Student details hidden.
  • •It picks up a quiz you already started instead of starting over.
  • •It never starts a new attempt on a quiz you already submitted. Retakes are your call.
  • •Timed and password-protected quizzes are left for you.
  • •Questions about yourself, like interest surveys, are left for you too.

Only if your teacher allowed more than one attempt. If you have attempts left, the quiz page offers a new one. If not, ask your teacher.

Can I see the answers after a Brightspace quiz?+

It depends on your teacher's settings. Some quizzes show correct answers right after you submit, some show only your score, and some show nothing until later.

What happens if I leave a Brightspace quiz?+

Your attempt stays open and your saved answers are kept. If the quiz is timed, the clock keeps running. Go back and submit before time or the due date runs out.
