Most full-credit FLVS courses are split into two segments, each worth half a credit. At the end of each segment there's a segment exam, a bigger test that covers the whole segment instead of one module. It's usually the assessment students worry about most, because it carries more weight than a regular quiz and you can't treat it like one.
Every course and teacher sets things up a little differently, so check your course announcements. Here's the common pattern, how to prepare, and what Revolt can and can't do on exam day.
How FLVS segment exams work
- •They show up in your Table of Contents and on the Assessments page like any other assessment, near the end of the segment.
- •They cover everything in the segment, so questions come from many modules.
- •Many teachers lock the exam with a password. You get it from your teacher, often after a check-in or a DBA.
- •Questions are a mix of types. Multiple choice is the most common, but you may see multi-select, matching or short answers.
- •Your teacher decides whether you get another try. Don't count on a reset.
How to prepare
- 1Finish every module in the segment first. Teachers often won't open the exam until the earlier work is in.
- 2Look at your Grade Report. Any low quiz score shows you which module to review.
- 3Re-read the lesson summaries for each module. Segment questions usually test the main ideas, not trivia.
- 4Message your teacher a few days early if the exam needs a password, so you're not waiting on exam day.
- 5Take it in one sitting with time to spare. FLVS sessions last about two hours, so don't start with ten minutes left.

Revolt for FLVSWhat Revolt does on a segment exam
Revolt's Auto Exam answers single-answer multiple-choice questions on FLVS quizzes and segment exams. It checks a growing bank of confirmed-correct answers first and uses AI for the rest, saves each answer one at a time like a student clicking, then submits once and checks the grade. If you use Auto Advance, it reads the segment's lessons first and reaches the exam in Table of Contents order.
- •Password-protected exams: you type the password. Revolt waits, never guesses or stores it, and takes over once the exam opens.
- •Question types it can't answer yet: multi-select, matching, fill-in, ordering and math entry. Revolt answers everything it can, then stops and asks you to finish the rest. It never submits or leaves the page on its own.
- •Low scores: Auto Retry supports using an FLVS reset when a score lands below the minimum you set, but whether a reset exists is up to your teacher.
After the exam
Some teachers follow a segment exam with a DBA or call you about your results. Know the big ideas from the segment before you start, because that conversation is all you. The FLVS DBA guide covers what they ask.
Frequently asked questions
How many segment exams does an FLVS course have?+
Most full-credit courses have two segments, so two segment exams. Half-credit courses usually have one. Check your course's Table of Contents.
Why does my FLVS segment exam need a password?+
Many teachers lock segment exams and give you the password once you're ready, often after a check-in call or DBA. Ask your teacher for it.
Can I retake an FLVS segment exam?+
Only if your teacher allows it. Some teachers reset an exam after a conversation, and some don't. Revolt never creates attempts.
Can Revolt answer every question on an FLVS segment exam?+
Auto Exam answers single-answer multiple choice. If the exam has another question type, Revolt answers what it can, then stops and asks you to finish without submitting.
